Could you die from Toxic Shock syndrome?

Well, I know you can but is it rare? I am petrified f doctors, but I think I might have it. Please don't patronize me and say "WELL go to the damn doctor!" It's not that simple for me. I have always used tampons. Not any pads or anything else. Yesterday was the last day of my period and I notice that I was bleeding really heavy. My period is extremely light so that's unusual for me. Today, I have a massive head-ache and fever. I feel so weak and tired and dazed and lost. I took the tampon out. I thought you were only suppose to get TSS from wearing a tampon too long...? I change mine every 6 hrs because my period is light. Could I possibly have it? And if I do, what are the chances of me dying? Can I treat it without going to the doctor?
